AMA Adam Lambert performance–What are some straight performances that were just as sexual as him?
I’m having an argument with my mom. Woman parade around on stage in bikinis, kiss, and roll around the floor while moaning. Example: Like a Virgin performance. Naww, people weren’t all up in arms with that, but Adam Lambert is somehow too explicit and deviant for television.
Anyway, I need an actually video example because I’m going to look it up on youtube to PROVE to her that there are other sexual performances, but this one is only controversial because Adam is gay.

There was Madonna kissing Britney and then kissing Christina and they didn’t blur that out. He kisses a dude and its a huge issue. They made a big deal about him supposedly insinuating oral sex yet it is okay for Miley Cyrus, who is underage, to get on a stripper pole. Even late night television, where kids can easily turn to those channels and watch a show where they sell dildos and Girls Gone Wild DVDs. Jerry Springer who is on in the afternoon with women making out and flashing there boobs. That is not including all of the other vulgar things they do and no one says anything about it. It is hypocrisy. It seems to be discrimination. Everyone finds it hot when girls do sexual things with each other, as soon as two guys do it, it is suddenly a problem.
Edit: Why wouldn’t I defend a guy kissing another guy? That exact mentality is what makes people homophobes. There is nothing wrong with two men kissing. Maybe you do not find it natural but that is your problem and your ignorance.

Considering that I find it no more acceptable in either case, I consider it a moot point. I don’t care *who* behaves like rabid sex-fiends in public, the behaviour is abhorrent. Assuming that, by pointing out, “Well, THEY do it….” justifies Mr. Lambert’s behaviour is juvenile. Rather than making that comparison for the purpose of justification, why not use the energy to rail against the entire scenario, regardles of who is participating, or how?
A level playing field is only as acceptable as the level at which all play, equally.
ok, i’m tired of people talking about this. That was on network t.v. of course there’s gonna be a big deal made about it. being gay is not the norm in america. Britney and Madonna were on MTV, that’s a cable network.
edit: @ambu, clearly you don’t know how television works do you? Jerry Springer is a staged show, and those late night infomercials selling dildos are not national television. stop defending a man who kissed another man on live national television.
There may be videos of women that are just as sexual as what Adam Lambert did, but I really wish that such television performances were not blatantly sexual.
Television audiences often include children. I am a dad myself, and I wish musicians and TV producers cared just a little bit for public standards of propriety and not just how much money they make off of blatantly sexual performances.
If Madonna or Britney were blatant, it does not make it right or proper.

So you’re probably right — it is hypocritical and a double standard if it’s okay for women but not men — but I don’t think we really need sex or over-the-top groping on network TV. Kissing is cool, but not public sex.
